Four students from local secondary colleges had their academic achievements honoured at the Premier’s VCE Awards ceremony at Crown Palladium on Tuesday, 13 July, 2010.

The students’ results were amongst the top five in the state in the following categories:
• Amanda Palombe, Bayside P-12 College – Community Services
• Joseph Jaya, Emmanuel College – Psychology
• Sam Hayward, Williamstown High School – Literature
• Alexandra Wight, Williamstown High School – Outdoor and Environmental Studies

Victorian Premier John Brumby presented commemorative awards to the state’s 28 top All-Round VCE High Achievers who gained study scores of 46 or higher in at least five VCE studies in 2008 and 2009. 

A total of 326 awards were presented to 295 students by professionals including, fashion designer Bettina Liano, chef Jacques Reymond, comedian Cal Wilson, AFL champion Scott Lucas, and meteorologist David Brown.

State Member for Williamstown, Wade Noonan congratulated students on their exceptional results and said they should feel extremely proud of their achievements.

“I’d like to extend my personal congratulations to all these students, you are an inspiration to your peers and to us all,” Mr Noonan.

“These young people have shown an impressive level of dedication and drive to reach their goals.

Awards were presented in the following categories:  28 Top All-Round VCE High Achievers, Best Three International Students, Best 10 Students in English, Best 20 Students in Mathematics, Languages other than English and Best Five Students in Other VCE studies.

Forty-two awards went to Catholic schools, 94 to Government schools, 184 to Independent schools and six awards to other education providers.
