SECONDARY SCHOOL CAMPUS IN SEDDON A STEP CLOSER

A new secondary school campus in Seddon is a step closer, with a site adjacent to Victoria University’s Nicholson Street Campus set to be acquired as part of a $236.8 million investment by the Andrews Labor Government to buy the land needed to meet the future needs of Melbourne’s fastest growing communities.

Inner West MP’s Wade Noonan and Marsha Thomson today announced a site for the new Footscray Learning Precinct’s Seddon Campus would be acquired as part of a funding package to buy land for 14 new schools to build the school capacity needed to meet Melbourne’s growing needs.

The Labor Government is now delivering an unprecedented 64 new school projects across Victoria to meet the demand created by the state’s population boom, with more than 90,000 school-aged children and teenagers predicted to call Victoria home by 2022.

This includes having already delivered the school infrastructure needed to meet the needs of Victoria’s growing student population until 2019 through an unprecedented $2.5 billion investment as part of the Education State.

The Footscray Learning Precinct will have two junior campuses and one senior campus and provide world-class learning opportunities for students, from early childhood through to secondary school and beyond.

Under the plan:

  • From 2020, Footscray City College will become a new senior campus for years 10-12.
  • From 2020, Gilmore College will be a co-educational junior campus for years 7-9.
  • A new secondary campus in Seddon will be a co-educational junior campus for years 7-9 with the opening date subject to future budget funding.
  • In 2019, Gilmore College will start changing its enrolments, with no Years 7 or 11 intake.
  • Current Footscray City College students will complete their school education at the current site.
  • We will appoint a Transition Coordinator in 2018 to develop individual transition plans for students.
